International Wine Institute

The private national and international seminar and training institution "International Wine Institute (IWI)" in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler (Ahr) was founded in 2009 as a professional school for sommeliers by Alexander A. Kohnen, who serves as managing director. Wine seminars and professional training opportunities in several languages are offered for the catering trade, the wine trade and for the wine industry. The extensive range of seminars and courses includes in detail Sensory Seminar; Wine Connoisseur with the levels Basic, Advanced and Professional; Wine Consultant; Sommelier with the levels Commis Sommelier (title awarded by IWI), Sommelier IHK (IHK = Chamber of Industry and Commerce) and Sommelier MC (Master Class = additional title awarded by IWI on completion of the course in English); as well as Wine Event Manager. Professional competence is recognised by successfully passing a public law examination with the IHK examination certificate.
