The winery is located in the municipality of Schenna near Meran in the Italian wine growing area of South Tyrol (Trentino-South Tyrol region). The name is derived from the Tyrolean word "Leite", which was once used to describe a steep slope. The estate has been owned by the Egger family since 1947. It is run by Karl Pichler, supported by father-in-law Franz Egger, his wife Karin Egger-Pichler is responsible for the affiliated hotel. In 2010 a new winery was put into operation.

The vineyards at 450 metres above sea level cover 1.6 hectares of vineyards planted with the leading varieties Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as small areas of Vernatsch, Lagrein and Merlot. The product range includes the DOC wines Merano Hills, South Tyrolean (Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon, Pinot Noir) and the red wine cuvée "Roaner" (Merlot, Lagrein). Fine brandies are distilled in the company's own distillery in Riffian. The winery is a member of the Association of Free Winegrowers South Tyrol.
