The barrel-shaped wine museum near Ingelfingen in Baden-Württemberg is the second largest wooden barrel in Germany after the Dürkheimer barrel. The building, initiated by the Ingelfingen entrepreneur Fritz Müller, was completed in 2002. The self-supporting barrel construction of laminated wood panels with solid oak panelling was placed on a stone substructure 300 metres above sea level in the vineyards above Ingelfingen. A wine nature trail leads directly past the museum. Inside, historical wine growing equipment and the metal figure of a winegrower are displayed on two levels. The barrel is open twice a year for the Open Day; it can also be rented for parties. It is 9.4 metres high, 18 metres wide and 13.2 metres deep. The barrel body is 7 metres high, 14.75 metres wide and 8.8 metres deep. The volume is 716.5 cubic metres, which corresponds to 716,500 litres. See also a list under largest barrel in the world.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
