The red grape variety is a new breed between Barbera x Merlot. Synonyms are Barbera x Cabernet Franc N. 1, Gratena, Gratena Nero and Terzi 1. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2010, the assumed paternity of Cabernet Franc up to that point has been proven wrong. The cross was made by the breeder Riccardo Terzi in Bergamo, Italy. The medium to late-maturing, high-yielding vine produces dark-coloured, alcohol-rich red wines. It is cultivated in Lombardy in the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia, where it is permitted in the DOC red wines Capriano del Colle, Cellatica and Terre del Colleoni. The area under cultivation in 2016 was 12 hectares, with a downward trend (statistics Kym Anderson).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
