The New Zealand winery in Blenheim in the Marlborough area (South Island) was founded in 1982 by the Australian Hunter couple. After Ernie Hunter's death in 1987, it is now run by Jane Hunter, who had been working for Montana Wines. There is also an estate-owned restaurant. The vineyards comprise 16 hectares of own vineyards, grapes are purchased from another 50 hectares. The varieties Breidecker, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc are cultivated. Among the top wines are those made from Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Since 1998, sparkling wines from Riesling and Gewürztraminer have also been produced under the "Miru Miru" brand. About 60,000 cases of wine are produced every year.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
