Hunden

Old term used in German-speaking countries (also Hündeln) for digging in the bent-down shoot of a vine for the purpose of forming a lowering stem; see there.

Term for the propagation result of vines (or other plants) and/or also for the shoot previously buried in the soil. Synonyms for this method include cuttings, offshoots, cuttings, fanning, fresh shoots, dogs, marbles, newcomers, nicklings and tail vines. This ancient method was already described by the Roman wine writer Columella (1st century AD).
