The winery is located in the municipality of Herbolzheim-Tutschfelden (Breisgau area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. The story began in 1999 with Horst Holub's 50th birthday, when he was given an area of seven acres of Pinot Noir as a gift; the first harvest yielded a single barrique barrel. Every year, a few more plots were added, so that the vineyard area now totals 1.2 hectares. These are distributed among the single vineyards Bienenberg (Malterdingen), Herrenberg (Nordweiler), Kaiserberg (Herbolzheim) and Steinhalde (Amoltern). In addition to Pinot Noir, these are also planted with Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. The quality criteria in the vineyard are natural cover crop, intensive foliage care, yield reduction and hand harvesting at the optimal time. The Pinot Blancs are partly aged in steel tanks and partly in barriques for eight months after a BSA, the Pinot Gris for 12 months after a BSA. The Pinot Noirs mature in new barriques for 18 months after a BSA.
