Hohe Gräte

single vineyard in the municipality of Karsdorf (Neuenburg Castle area) in the German wine-growing region of Saale-Unstrut. One of the protective castles of the Unstrut valley was located on the ridge. The remains of the ramparts above the vineyard, which are still visible today, were the inspiration for the name, as they stand out against the horizon like the bones of a fish. The vineyards, which face south to southwest at an altitude of 110 to 220 metres above sea level with a slope of 20 to 45%, comprise 15 hectares of vineyards after an expansion in 1992. The soils consist of gypsum keuper and shell limestone with quartzite in places. The varieties Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, Portugieser and Pinot Noir are cultivated here. The original core part with 5.8 hectares is solely owned by the Lützkendorf winery.
