German wine expert Marcus "Sam" Hofschuster (*1968) is one of the most renowned wine critics in Germany and Europe today. His passion for German wine was awakened at the end of the 1980s. During his time as a wine merchant, he was already a committed promoter of top German wines. It was at that time that he came up with the idea of a comprehensive guide to the best German wines (at that time still online and in book form, now only online). Gradually, other countries followed suit.

Today, Marcus Hofschuster and his colleague Kim Schreiber taste and rate wines on a daily basis. From the very beginning, this was done exclusively in the form of blind tastings in the tasting room at wein.plus in Erlangen (Middle Franconia, Bavaria). The results of tastings at producers' premises or at events are not published unless they are rare samples.

For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
