Himrod

The white grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Thompson Seedless (Sultana) x Ontario. Synonyms are Himrod Seedless, Hymrod and New York 15310. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid named after a city was crossed in 1928 at the Vine Breeding Institute of Cornell University in Geneva, New York State, by A. B. Stout. The same parents also produced the new variety Romulus. Himrod was a crossing partner of the new varieties Canadice and Sovereign Coronation. The very early ripening vine is resistant to frost and both types of mildew. It is mainly used as table grape, but also for white wines. In 2016, half a hectare of vineyard was designated in the US state of Pennsylvania (Kym Anderson).
