Hemer Stefan & Andreas

The "Wein- & Sektgut Hemer GbR" is located in the community of Abenheim (area Wonnegau) in the German wine growing region Rheinhessen. The main house, which is still used today, was built by the great-grandparents Karl and Anna-Maria Jennewein in 1902. The formerly mixed agricultural operation was converted to pure viticulture from the 1960s onwards. Today the farm is managed by Andreas and Stefan Hemer. The vineyards comprise 30 hectares of vineyards in the individual locations Kapellenstück and Klausenberg (Abenheim). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Silvaner, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Kerner, Chardonnay, Gelber Muskateller, Gewürztraminer, Scheurebe, Bacchus, Morio Muscat, Faberrebe, Solaris, Huxelrebe and Ortega, as well as the red wine varieties Dornfelder, Portugieser, Pinot Noir, Merlot, St. Laurent, Frühburgunder, Regent and Cabernet Dorsa

Since 2004, organic viticulture has been practised according to the ECOVIN guidelines. Quality criteria are short pruning, targeted soil cultivation, optimal nutrient supply of the vines and environmentally friendly plant protection. Consistent thinning out results in a yield reduction of 30 to 50% depending on the variety and wine type. After gentle pressing, the musts are fermented with the aim of preserving the natural aromas. The wines are stored on the fine yeast for a long time

The winery has its own system with three classes from one to three stars. The *-wines include the fruity estate wines and are bottled in litre bottles. The ** wines correspond to Kabinett and Spätlese; the white wines are aged in steel tanks, the red wines in large wooden barrels. The ***-premium wines correspond to Großes Gewächs, Selectionsweine, as well as Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein. The red wines are aged up to 24 months in barriques. A main segment are bottle-fermented sparkling wines. Fine spirits (marc, yeast, grape, wine), vinegars and wine jelly are also produced. Since 2003 there is a close cooperation with the Rödinger Winery, whose wines are vinified and marketed under this name.
