Heilig Grab

Producer description of "Weingut/Weinhaus Heilig Grab"

The winery is located in the municipality of Boppard in the German Mittelrhein wine-growing region. It is run by Rudolf and Susanne Schoeneberger and their son Jonas. Guest rooms are also available.

Winery name

Boppard's oldest wine tavern with garden restaurant, the "Heilig Grab", has been family-owned for more than 200 years. The original name derives from an event in connection with the custom of visiting and praying at the "Holy Sepulchre" (a cross laid on the floor) in Boppard's Carmelite monastery church on Good Friday. Once again, the traditional men's walk to church after work took place on Good Friday. The Boppard women found it strange that their husbands only turned up very late for dinner this time.
