Hazel

Riede (site) in the municipality of Straß in Straßertal in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Kamptal. The name is derived from the hazel bush, which is very common here. Glacial action (high pressure) pulverised rocks such as quartz, lime, mica and clay particles. The loess offers excellent water storage capacity, so that the soils hardly suffer from drought. The heart of the vineyard, with a gentle extension to the south, is called Mittelhasel. Here, mainly the Grüner Veltliner variety is cultivated. The wineries Allram, Arndorfer, Dolle Peter, Eichinger Birgit, Hiedler Ludwig, Topf Johann, Waldschütz Reinhard, Weixelbaum Heinz and Zottlöderer have shares in the vineyard.
