Flavour characteristic of certain species of American grapes and the wine made from them, which in Europe is usually understood negatively (in Japan, however, this often very intense aroma is perceived as pleasant). It is often described as intense and unpleasant, accompanied by a sweetish, artificial flavour reminiscent of overripe fruit, strawberry jam or grape juice. The smell and taste evoke associations of animal and earthy tones reminiscent of a fox's den, complemented by nuances of other tones such as fox urine (cat urine), wet fox fur, damp earth and occasionally animal faeces.

Other names for foxy are fox taste, fox flavour, cat flavour, skunk tone (skunk tone) and bug flavour. The term hybrid flavour, which is also very often used, is actually misleading, as by no means all hybrids have this flavour. The name foxy was chosen because of the similarity of the scent around a fox's den or the smell of fox urine (cat urine), wet fox fur and animal faeces.
