The "Ktima Hatzigeorgiou" winery is located in Karpassi on the Greek island of Limnos in the eastern Aegean Sea. The family has a long tradition in viticulture and wine trade. They originally come from Smyrna (Izmir) in Turkey where grandfather Petros had a winery. In 1922, the family emigrated to the island of Lesbos, then worked in Athens from 1927 and moved to Limnos in 1987. In the early years, Themistoklis Hatzigeorgiou and his son Petros produced the spirits Tsipouro and Ouzo. In 1998, the business was taken over by Petros, who changed the focus to wine production and invested in new buildings. The new winery opened in 2007, with a restaurant and hostel attached. Son Themistoklis (production and marketing), daughter Polixeni (responsible for the wine cellar after studying oenology in Bordeaux and working for Château Margaux for two years) and son Leonidas (vineyard maintenance and advising contract winemakers) are also active in the business.
