Hants Christa

The Austrian wine expert Dr. Christa Hanten (*1954) was born in the Weinviertel, grew up in Langenlois and was trained in Krems, so in her own words "the relationship to wine was pre-programmed". She completed her studies of German and economic history at the University of Vienna with a dissertation on organisation and marketing in viticulture. After "travelling years" in libraries and publishing houses, she decided to become self-employed in 1993, with a focus on text and media design in the (wine-)culinary sector. Christa Hanten is a specialist editor, writer and wine critic. After many years in the Jury Salon Österreichischer Wein, she now works for Best of Riesling and in her special field of organic wines (e.g. jury member for the International Organic Wine Award)

In addition, Christa Hanten is a long-standing jury member of Destillata as an expert for "high spirits" and is still active at the World Spirits Award. She regularly writes articles for the Alps-Adriatic magazine Papageno (portraits of distillers, distillates/spirits and restaurants with a focus on spirits). Her most important publications are "Österreichs Salon-Weine" (1999 to 2008), "Essig - Das saure Milieu" (2000), "Das ABC der Weine Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz" (2003), "Wein Burgenland" with the wine expert Walter Kutscher (2004), collaboration with "Brockhaus Wein" (2004), and "The Austrian Wines, Vienna International Hotels & Resorts" (2008 and 2011).
