The winery is located in the municipality of Bad Dürkheim-Leistadt (Mittelhaardt/Deutsche Weinstraße area) in the German wine-growing region of Pfalz. The traditional family has been growing grapes for several generations. Bottled wine marketing was started in 1955. A guesthouse is attached. Today, three generations work in the family. Rudi Hanewald and Petra Schwerdt are the farm managers, Thomas Hanewald is the cellar master, Stephan Schwerdt and Barbara Hanewald are responsible for sales, and Rudolf Schwerdt is in charge of external operations.
The vineyards cover 26 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Hochbenn (Bad-Dürkheim), Paradiesgarten (Deidesheim), Reiterpfad (Ruppertsberg), as well as Herrenmorgen and Kalkofen (Leistadt). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Goldmuskateller, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Morio-Muskat, Kerner, Scheurebe, Huxelrebe and Ehrenfelser, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Dornfelder, Regent, St. Laurent, Lemberger (Blaufränkisch), Blauer Portugieser, Heroldrebe and Acolon.
As honorary chairman of the Domäne Wachau, it is the easiest and quickest way for me to access the wein.plus encyclopaedia when I have questions. The certainty of receiving well-founded and up-to-date information here makes it an indispensable guide.
