Common name or synonym in South Africa (German: Hahnenfuß, also Haanepoot, White Hanepoot) for the white grape variety Muscat d'Alexandrie, which is cultivated here in all areas. It is used for almost all wine styles or products, namely dry, sweet and fortified wines, as well as table grapes, sultanas and grape juice. However, Hanepoot is also commonly used in South Africa as a term for simple wines (consumer wine).
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
