Hammel

The wine production company Hammel SA, headquartered in the town of Rolle in the Swiss canton of Vaud, was founded in 1940. It is managed by the Hammel and Rolaz families. The company owns ten wineries with 70 hectares of vineyards, eight of which are in Vaud, one in Valais and one in the Gevrey-Chambertin area of French Burgundy. A further 500 hectares are purchased from contract winegrowers. The most famous wineries are Domaine de Crochet in Mont-sur-Rolle (La Côte), Clos du Châtelard in Villeneuve, Clos de la George and L'Ovaille in Yvorne (all three Chablis). The flagship wines include the Domaine de Crochet's "Charles Auguste" red wine cuvée aged in barriques (made from Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Viognier) and a Burgundy style Chardonnay. A speciality of the house are Spätlese (Vendange Tardive) and sweet wines, which have already won numerous awards. The product range also includes, of course, the traditional white wines from the Chasselas variety(Dorin and Terravin).
