The red grape variety comes from Azerbaijan; synonyms are Aronova Boroda (Aron's Bird), Aronun Saggaly, Aronun Saqqali, Gamachara, Gamashara, Hamyshiradyr, Hemesere and Hemeshere. The early ripening vine with thick-skinned berries produces acidic, rather low-alcohol red wines. It is cultivated in the Jalilabad region in the southeast of the country and is used for dry and sweet, fortified wines. In 2016, however, no stock was declared (Kym Anderson).
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
