Producer description of "Weingut Fritz Haag - Dusemonder Hof"

The origin of the winery "Fritz Haag - Dusemonder Hof" in the municipality of Brauneberg (was called Dusemond until 1925) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel dates back to 1605. After years of apprenticeship in Austria, Wilhelm Haag (+2020) took over the estate in 1957. After years of apprenticeship in renowned wineries in Germany and South Africa, studies at the University of Applied Sciences Geisenheim with a degree in oenology and five years as manager of the wineries Geheimrat J. Wegeler Erben, the estate has been run by his son Oliver Haag and his wife Jessica since the beginning of 2005.

The vineyards cover 19.5 hectares of vines with slopes of up to 80%, eight hectares of which are in the top Brauneberg sites of Juffer and Juffer Sonnenuhr. They are planted exclusively with Riesling. The extraordinary showpiece in the Juffer Sonnenuhr is a 7,000 m² plot with 80-year-old vines. The grapes are harvested by hand in mostly four passes. In the first pass, around 20% of the grapes are selected, from which the estate wine with its strong acidity is made. The rest of the grapes are destined for the Prädikat wines and, if possible, remain on the vine considerably longer.
