The winery is located in the community of Eltville
in the German Rheingau
wine region. It is run by Johannes Ernst, the fourth generation of the family. The vineyards comprise 35 hectares of vineyards in the individual locations Kalbspflicht, Langenstück
, Taubenberg and Sonnenberg
(Rauenthal), Rödchen (Martinsthal), Sandgrub (Kiedrich), and Vitusberg (Walluf). They are mainly planted with Riesling (75%) and Pinot Noir (20%), as well as some Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. The red wines are pressed by means of gentle mash heating
and then matured in large wooden barrels as well as in barriques. A speciality of the house is a white pressed Blanc de Noirs from Pinot Noir. The Riesling wines are cool fermented in stainless steel with the aim of producing varietal and fruity wines. Since the 2006 vintage, the white wines are provided with STELVIN screw cap
in the 0.75 l bottle. Furthermore, sparkling wines and bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
