The winery is located in the municipality of Eltville in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. It is run by Johannes Ernst, the fourth generation of the family. The vineyards cover 35 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Kalbspflicht, Langenstück, Taubenberg and Sonnenberg (Eltville), Gehrn and Wülfen (Rauenthal), Rödchen (Martinsthal), Sandgrub (Kiedrich), and Vitusberg (Walluf). They are mainly planted with Riesling (75%) and Pinot Noir (20%), as well as some Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. The red wines are vinified by gentle maceration and then aged in large wooden barrels as well as in barriques. A speciality of the house is a white-pressed Blanc de Noirs made from Pinot Noir. The Riesling wines are fermented cool in stainless steel with the aim of producing varietal-typical and fruit-driven wines. Since the 2006 vintage, the white wines have been bottled in 0.75 l bottles with STELVIN screw caps. Furthermore, sparkling wines and bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
