The winery "Markus Prackwieser - Gump Hof" is located in the municipality of Völs am Schlern (Fiè allo Sciliar) in the southern Eisack valley in the Italian wine growing area of South Tyrol (region Trentino-South Tyrol). The traditional Gump Hof was already mentioned in a document in 1546. It has been owned by the Prackwieser family for more than 200 years; since 2000 the farm has been managed by Markus Prackwieser. The vineyards cover six hectares of vineyards at an altitude of up to 550 metres above sea level in steep areas with a gradient of 50 to 70%. One third of these are planted with the red wine varieties Blauburgunder(Pinot Noir) and Vernatsch(Schiava Grossa), and two thirds with the white wine varieties Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc), Weißburgunder(Pinot Blanc) and Gewürztraminer.
The wines are produced in the two lines "Praesulis" (after the nearby Prösels Castle) and "Renaissance" (selection of the best lots). They are vinified according to the vineyard and variety. Depending on the type of wine, they are aged in steel tanks, in barriques or in large wooden barrels (tonneau) in the primary cellar. The white wines are stored for a long time on the fine yeast. Premium wines are the two white wines Praesulis Sauvignon and Praesulis Pinot Blanc (mature in stainless steel and 1/3 in large wooden barrels) and the red wine Praesulis Pinot Noir (matures 1 year in barrique), as well as the white wine cuvée Tandaradei (Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer; 5 hl/ha yield; matures 2 years in barrique). The winery is a member of the Association of Free Winegrowers South Tyrol.
