Gros Blanc

The white grape variety comes from France. It is one of the numerous descendants of Gouais Blanc (White Heunisch); the second parent is unknown. However, the variety is no longer of any importance, no stock was reported in 2010 (statistics Kym Anderson).

The name (meaning "great whites") is also synonymous with the Gouais Blanc variety itself, as well as Colombard (Gros Blanc Doux), Elbling, Graisse, Luglienga Bianca, Marocain Noir (Gros Blanc de Ribiers), Melon de Bourgogne, Pétoin, Romorantin (Gros Blanc de Villefranche) and Sacy. Apart from the Luglienga Bianca and Marocain Noir varieties, these are also direct descendants of Gouais Blanc.
