The white grape variety comes from Croatia. Synonyms are Gark, Grk Bijeli, Grk Korculanski, Grk Lumbarajski, Grk Mali, Grk Veli and Lumbarajski Grk. In spite of apparently indicative synonyms, it should not be confused with the variety Prč (synonym Grk). According to DNA analyses carried out in 2004 (as with Plavina and Vranac) there is a parent-offspring relationship with the variety Tribidrag (Crljenak Kaštelanski). Although the name (Grk = Greek) indicates a long suspected Greek origin, this is obsolete due to the clarified parentage. It is a purely female grape variety. The medium to late ripening vine is relatively resistant to fungal diseases. It produces full-bodied white wines with moderate acidity and a slight bitter note. The variety is cultivated in Croatia on the island Korčula and in the coastal region around Dubrovnik. In 2016, however, no stock was declared (Kym Anderson).
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
