Gressenwein

Formerly a common term in Lower Franconia for a high-quality wine. It was mainly used to describe the wines from the Stein-Harfe parcel of the famous single vineyard Stein, which was once the sole property of the Haug monastery in Würzburg. It is possible that the name derives from the Latin "Gressus" for the ceremonial striding during a procession or pilgrimage. The monks traditionally offered the distinguished participants in a procession to the monastery a drink from the monastery cellar.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
