The white grape variety probably originates from Italy. The name is derived from "Agosto" (Italian for August) and indicates the early ripening from the end of July/beginning of August. The 90 or so synonyms attest to its great age and formerly widespread distribution in Europe. Some of them are Agostana, Agostenga Bianca, Agostinga, August Grape, Bianca...
