Greco Nero di Verbicaro

The red grape variety comes from Italy. Synonyms are Greco Nero and Mantonico Nero Italico. Despite the similarity in name, it must not be confused with the variety Greco Nero di Sibari; its originality was confirmed by a DNA analysis carried out in 2008. There is also no relation to the variety Mantonico Bianco. However, only one Greco Nero appears in the statistics of Kym Anderson in 2010. Under this name a variety is cultivated in Calabria. There, for example, it is permitted in some wines of the extensive DOC area Terre di Cosenza.
