Grape closure

Time within the annual vegetative cycle of the grape when the berries are fully grown, so that they lie close together and cover the stalk framework (right picture). At the beginning of the ripening phase, the stem structure is still visible (picture left). However, the berries are still hard and sour. Treatment against botrytis or mildew is carried out shortly before the grapes close, so that the fungicides also reach the inside of the grapes. Then the sessile phase with external growth stop takes place. See also under fruit set; the next phase is the véraison (start of ripening).
