The red grape variety is a new variety between Aramon Noir x Petit Bouschet. Synonyms are Grand Bouschet, Grand Noir as second main name, Granoir, Gros Noir, Gros Producteur, Morrastel-Bouschet (France); Grand Bouschet, Sumo Tinto, Tinta, Tinta Fina (Portugal); Garnacho, Gran Negro (Spain); Kalmettei Nagy Fekete (Hungary). The cross was made in France in 1855 by the breeder Henri Bouschet. It must not be confused with the varieties Alicante Henri Bouschet (Sumo Tinto) or Morrastel B ouschet (same father) despite seemingly indicating synonyms or morphological similarities. The variety was a crossing partner of the new varieties Cabinda, Fepiro, Tinta de Alcoa, Vera Cruz and Zaire.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
