Grampians

Winegrowing area (GI) in the Australian state of Victoria, which is part of the Western Victoria zone. The former name Great Western was changed to Grampians when the GI system was introduced, but the name is still used for a subarea. The reason for the change was a dispute between the Best's and Seppelt wineries over the use of the name that lasted several decades. A relatively cool climate prevails. The climate and soil are ideal for sparkling wines, which are produced here on a larger scale. The vineyards cover 320 hectares of vineyards, which are planted with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling, as well as the red wine varieties Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. Well-known producers are Best's, Garden Gully Vineyards, Mount Langi Ghiran and Seppelt Great Western.
