Goldemund

single vineyard in the municipality of Engehöll-Oberwesel (Loreley area) in the German wine-growing region of the Middle Rhine. The second syllable of the name contains the Latin word "mons" (mountain), the first syllable could either refer to a person or express appreciation of the location. The south to south-east facing vineyard at 120 to 300 metres above sea level in a side valley of the Rhine with a slope of 25 to 60% covers five hectares of vineyards. On the slate weathered soil interspersed with greywacke and quartzite with a high proportion of fine earth and loam and good water storage capacity, 100% Riesling is cultivated. The flanks of the slope are densely forested. The Lanius-Knab winery, for example, has shares in the site.
