Goethe (documents)

Under this name plus serial number several rootstocks were created by the German pomologist Hermann Goethe (1837-1911) in Maribor. These are interspecific crosses or hybrids. Goethe 1 and Goethe 2 are crosses between Malbec (Cot) x Vitis berlandieri, Goethe 3 between Vitis riparia x Vitis rupestris, as well as the rebloom-resistant Goethe 9 ( Rupestris Goethe No. 9) a Vitis rupestris cross. The latter was preferred by the breeder Clotar Bouvier (1853-1930). See also under grapevine.
