The white grape variety originates from the Spanish Balearic capital Mallorca. The parentage is unknown. It is not a mutation or there is no genetic relationship to the red varieties Garnacha Tinta (with synonym Giró) or Girò in Sardinia. The late-ripening vine is resistant to both types of mildew, but susceptible to botrytis. It yields alcohol-rich, aromatic white wines with flavours of pineapple, citrus and mango. The almost extinct variety has been revitalised. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
