The red grape variety is a new breeding between Concord x Vinifera (unknown European variety). It contains genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in the USA in 1883 by the private breeder A. P. Wylie, after whom it is also named. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
