Gill

Old Anglo-American unit of measure for liquids with the volume of 0.142 litres in England and 0.118 in the USA. A gallon is 32 gills, 16 cups, 8 pints and 4 quarts. In British bars, spirits used to be served in quantities of 1/6 Gill, which was roughly equivalent to 2.3 cl. See also under hollow measures.
