Gießauf-Nell

The winery is located in the municipality of Klöch in the Austrian wine-growing region of Vulkanland Steiermark. The winery is rich in tradition and is run by Josef and Margrit Nell, both graduates of the viticulture school Silberberg. A guesthouse and a wine tavern are attached. The vineyards cover six hectares in the Deutsch-Haseldorf, Hochwarth and Klöcherberg vineyards. They are planted with the white wine varieties Roter Traminer, Gelber Traminer, Gewürztraminer (the three Traminer varieties occupy 45% of the total area), Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Rheinriesling, Gelber Muskateller, Weißburgunder, Morillon (Chardonnay), Scheurebe and Müller-Thurgau, as well as the red wine variety Blauer Zweigelt. Special emphasis is placed on grape selection during the harvest. The wines are vinified with high varietal characteristics. Josef Nell is an absolute Traminer specialist and is particularly dedicated to the three varieties of this grape, which grows particularly well on volcanic soils. The premium wines often include the highest-awarded "Klöcher Traminer" in various vintages and the Cuvée Eruption (Pinot Blanc, Morillon). Around 40,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Noble brandies are also produced.
