Gialdi

The winery "Casa Vinicola Gialdi SA" in Mendrisio in the Swiss canton of Ticino was founded in 1984, when Feliciano Gialdi bought and modernised the ailing Roberto Foc winery in the small community of Bodio. There are no vineyards of their own, but only grapes from around 300 contract winegrowers, often with very small vineyards in the valleys of Blenio, Leventina and Val Riviera in northern Ticino. The flagship of the house is the Merlot red wine "36", which is aged for 36 months in barriques. Other premium wines are the "Sassi grossi" (Merlot), also aged in barriques, and a white Bianco di Merlot. Simpler Merlots are produced under the respective community name.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
