Gfanger

Vineyard (site) in the municipality of Horitschon in the wine-growing region of Mittelburgenland (Austria). The north-east facing vineyards cover 130 hectares of vines at 250 to 303 metres above sea level with a slope of 0° to 13°. Until 1920, the area was forested; historically, a distinction was made between the lower "Gfangeracker" and the upper "Gfangerwald". Today, the higher area known as Oberer Gfanger covers 96 hectares.

The deep, loamy and medium-humus soils are predominantly characterised by low-lime pseudogley and loess soils with gravel. In the higher area, the lime content increases in the deeper soil layers. With low permeability and rather dry conditions, the soils have a good water retention capacity.
