This refers to the lifting and fastening or tying up of the shoots (summer shoots, fruiting canes) on appropriate support devices during pruning or later maintenance work in the vineyard. This is because the vine 's climbing ability is not sufficient to grow up the staple wires on its own. The prerequisite for wild vines was provided by larger areas (trees). This makes vineyard care, harvesting and pest control easier and also enables mechanical cultivation.
