The Jean-René Germanier - Vins du Valais winery is located in the municipality of Bellavaud-Vétroz in the Swiss canton of Valais. It was founded in 1896 by Urbain Germanier (1873-1944). In 1945, his son Francis (1909-1994) distilled a brandy from Williams pears for the first time in Switzerland, and thus the house speciality "Bon Père William" was born. Today, the winery is run by Jean-René Germanier, who is assisted by his nephew Gilles Besse as oenologist. The vineyards cover 11 hectares of own vineyards, grapes are bought from another 40 hectares. The varieties Amigne, Chasselas, Gamay, Diolinoir, Ermitage (Marsanne), Humagne Rouge (Cornalin), Petite Arvine, Pinot Noir and Syrah are represented. The wines are produced in the four lines Grand Cru, Classique, Reserve and Gally. The flagships of the house are the "Syrah Cayas", the noble sweet "Mitis" fermented in barriques from the autochthonous variety Amigne and the red wine cuvée "Gally Assemblage" from Gamay and Diolonier. The product range also includes the traditional Valais wines Fendant (white wine made from Chasselas) and Dôle (red wine made from Pinot Noir and Gamay and pale as "Blanche").
