The winery is located in the municipality of Wielitsch near Ehrenhausen in the wine-growing region of Southern Styria (Austria). Its origins date back to 1777 and in 1968 the neighbouring Georgi-Schlössl was acquired, from which the current name is derived. In the 1970s, red wine vines were imported from the Ferruccio Lamborghini vineyard (Cabernet Sauvignon) and from France (Merlot, Pinot Noir). Finally, in 2008 the estate was taken over by the passionate wine connoisseur and successful entrepreneur Christian Trierenberg. In 2013, a major renovation and redesign took place, taking into account the tradition of the old winery. This resulted in the Georgiberg Restaurant, a wine boutique and the Oenologium, an information and sensory room with interesting facts about the history of wine growing. Today, the Georgiberg Winery offers a varied programme such as cellar tours with wine tasting, picnics, candlelight dinners and Pinzgauer tours. The estate is also a fantastic location for events such as weddings and company celebrations. Alois Gollenz is the cellar master, Stefan Krispel is responsible for sales and Raimund Pammer for the restaurant.
The vineyards cover 26 hectares in the Ciringa, Hochgrassnitzberg, Kresnica, Obegg and Wielitsch vineyards. They are planted to 80% with the white wine varieties Gelber Muskateller,Pinot Blanc, PinotGris, Gelber Traminer, Morillon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, and to 20% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Blauer Muskateller. Quality criteria in the vineyard are yield reduction and, in the case of Spitzenrieden, selective manual harvesting in several passes.
The wine cellar is equipped with the latest technology and is electronically controlled. It extends over two floors and consists of a pressing and a fermentation cellar. Natural gravity is used for the delivery, transport and processing of the grapes, must and wine. On the lower floor are the barrique cellar and the stainless steel tank cellar. The product range corresponds to the quality pyramid of Southern Styria DAC with area wines, local wines (Ehrenhausen) and vineyard wines (Hochgrassnitzberg, Obegg, Wielitsch). After partly spontaneous, slow fermentation, the wines are stored on the fine yeast for a long time. Depending on the type of wine, they are aged in stainless steel tanks, in large wooden barrels or in barrique barrels. The premium wines of the house are the Morillon Obegg (Chardonnay) and Pinot Blanc matured in large wooden barrels as well as B.M. Rosé sparkling wine (Blauer Muskateller). Grape juice, bottle-fermented sparkling wine and noble brandies (pear, plum, red wine marc, cigar) are also produced. The winery is a member of the Styrian Wine Community.
