The German Peter-Joseph-Hubert Geldermann (1810-1869) founded a champagne house in Aÿ together with William Deutz (1809-1884) in 1838. Before that he had been a champagne salesman at Bollinger, where he had met his partner. In 1988, the company was split into a French champagne producer(Champagne Deutz) and a German sparkling wine producer (Badische Geldermann Privat-Sektkellerei). The daughter of the founder Marie Deutz had married a Renè Lallier, the Lallier family bought the Geldermann part. Today's largest German sparkling wine producer Rotkäppchen-Mumm took over the main shares of the Geldermann sparkling wine producer from a Lallier descendant at the beginning of 2003.
