The white grape variety (also Kleinweiß) probably originates from Germany. Its parentage is unknown. There may be a genetic relationship to the varieties Weißer Elbling or Gouais Blanc (both with the synonym Kleinberger). In 2016, no stock was recorded under the name Gelber Kleinberger (Kym Anderson).
