Geisberg

One of the AOC sites classified as Grand Cru in Alsace (Haut-Rhin) within the Alsace Grand Cru appellation. The terraced vineyards cover almost nine hectares of vines on stony limestone-clay soil in the commune of Ribeauvillé. The name probably derives from the stony soil, as "Geis" in old German means "stony slope". The Riesling from here was already famous in 1308. Other varieties are Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. Well-known producers are Robert Faller, André Kientzler and Trimbach.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
