The winery is located in the municipality of Monzernheim (Wonnegau area) in the German wine-growing region of
Rheinhessen. The history of the traditional family dates back to 1463. For a long time, they lived mainly from farming, and it was not until around 1900 that wines were bottled. Bottled wine marketing was expanded on this foundation in the 1960s. The historic cross vault was built around 1800, and the vinotheque is located here. The brick cellar dates from 1907, and the Art Nouveau elements on the house are reflected on the bottle label. Today, the business is run by Paul and Sebastian Geil, who are supported by their parents Ulrich and Sigrid Geil.
The vineyards cover 18 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Goldberg (Monzernheim),
Morstein (Westhofen), and
Hasensprung (Bechtheim). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Huxelrebe, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, St. Laurent, Regent, Dornfelder and Portugieser. During cultivation, great importance is attached to environmentally conscious care of the vines as well as to cultivation adapted to the different
soil types. Instead of chemical agents, weeds are controlled mechanically. Depending on the type of wine, it is matured in stainless steel tanks (fresh, fruity white wines), large wooden barrels (part of the red and white wines) or barriques (part of the red wines). The winery is a member of the Riesling Generation and Mainzer Weinsalon associations.
