In Austria, the narrower levels of origin defined by wine law in the quality pyramid of the DAC origin system are regional wine, local wine and Riedenwein. A regional wine comes from a defined wine-growing region and represents the lowest level. The designation may only be used for DAC quality wines that fulfil the applicable origin and quality regulations of the wine-growing region in question. See under DAC.
