Gallant

The red grape variety (also Freiburg 550-91 R, Galanth) is an interspecific new variety between Solaris x Muscat Bleu. The hybrid was crossed in 1991 at the State Viticultural Institute in Freiburg (Baden-Württemberg) by Norbert Becker (1937-2012). The same parents also produced the varieties Garantos and Osella. The early-maturing vine is very resistant to frost and both types of mildew. It has large, loose berries in red-blue/black colour. The variety is mainly used as table grape. In 2016, no stocks were reported (Kym Anderson).
