Gaisriegl

Riede (vineyard ) in the municipality of Kitzeck-Sausal in the Styrian wine-growing region of Southern Styria(Austria). It was first mentioned in 1784. The west-south-west facing and partly terraced vineyards cover 21 hectares of vines at 410 to 560 metres above sea level with a slope of 5° to 35°. The difference in altitude is 150 metres. The soil is characterised as a deep, sandy-silty, calcareous and humus-rich brown earth over phyllite, which leads to dry conditions and reduced water storage capacity with high permeability. The dominant varieties are Sauvignon Blanc (6 ha) and Muscat (4 ha). Smaller areas are planted with the varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and other varieties. The Schauer winery, for example, has a share in the vineyard.
