Gadagne

Area with the four municipalities Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne, Caumont-sur-Durance, Morières-lès-Avignon, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Avignon and Vedène in the département of Vaucluse in the southern French appellation Côtes du Rhône-Villages (see the AOC regulations there). Since 2012, the name may also be mentioned on the label, although this only applies to red wines. From the 14th to the 18th century, wine from Gadagne was valued more highly than that from Châteauneuf-du-Pape and was exported to clerical dignitaries as far away as Rome. The vineyards cover 180 hectares of vines on the right bank of the Rhône on sandy alluvial soils with inclusions of clay, limestone and pebbles.
