Gadagne

A separate municipal area comprising the four communes of Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne, Caumont-sur-Durance, Morières-lès-Avignon, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Avignon and Vedène in the Département of Vaucluse in the southern French appellation Côtes du Rhône-Villages (see the AOC regulations there). Since 2012, the name may also appear on the label, but only for red wines. From the 14th to the 18th century, the wine from Gadagne was valued more highly than that of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and was exported to ecclesiastical dignitaries as far away as Rome. The vineyards cover 180 hectares of vineyards on the right bank of the Rhône on sandy alluvial soils with inclusions of clay, limestone and pebbles.
